Amid the controversy over the “untimely Ratha Jatra” conducted by ISKCON’s foreign branches, Odisha ISKCON has tendered an apology to Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb. Addressing the issue, Odisha ISKCON stated that it has no authority or jurisdiction over the organization’s foreign branches. The statement came after criticism and debate erupted over Ratha Jatras being held outside the traditional schedule in different countries. The Gajapati Maharaja had earlier expressed displeasure over such events, stating that the rituals and timings of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra are governed by tradition and should not be altered. The apology by Odisha ISKCON is being seen as an attempt to pacify devotees and maintain the sanctity of Jagannath culture. ISKCON has further clarified that it respects the traditions of Srimandir and will coordinate with the temple administration in the future regarding any such events.
