The Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) has issued notices to senior BJD leaders after school children in uniform were seen participating in a BJD rally in Jharsuguda. The Commission has sent show-cause notices to former CM Naveen Patnaik, former MLA Alka Mohanty, former MLA Deepali Das, Ex MLA, Brajaraj Nagar MLA Alka Mohanty, Chairman of Jharsuguda Child Welfare Committee and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) President Ipsita Sahu. OSCPCR Chairperson Babitra Patra said bringing school children to political events in uniform is a violation and an offense. “The concerned headmasters of the schools are also accountable for this,” she stated. The Commission has directed the Jharsuguda Collector and SP to submit an action taken report within 7 days. OSCPCR warned that involving school children in such rallies puts their lives at risk and compromises their safety and education. There has been no response yet from the BJD regarding the Commission’s notices. The incident has sparked debate over the use of children in political activities and the responsibility of schools in preventing it.
