A stampede-like situation during the Puri Ratha Jatra led to the death of two devotees and left more than 100 others hospitalised on Thursday. According to eyewitnesses and officials, the massive rush near the chariots caused suffocation. Two devotees collapsed due to breathlessness and fell down amid the crowd. They were immediately rushed to Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared them dead. More than 100 other devotees who complained of breathlessness, dizziness and minor injuries were also admitted to the hospital and nearby medical camps set up for the festival. As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the state government regarding the two deaths.
