Double encounter in Berhampur. Berhampur police have encountered two persons in the murder case of Gopalpur plot businessman Sudhir Patra. The injured are Ranjan Mallik (27) of Naugaon under Bargad police limits in Ganjam district, and Saroj Panda (35) of Sikiri Padhi Sahi under Hinjilicut police limits. Both were admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment after being injured in the police encounter. According to sources, the two accused were involved in the high-profile abduction and murder case of plot businessman Sudhir Patra. Both had been absconding since the incident. After police traced them to Rajasthan, a police team went there and took four accused into custody. While being brought to Berhampur on transit remand from Rajasthan, Ranjan and Saroj allegedly tried to escape. Police then opened fire, injuring both. Police officials are currently present at MKCG Medical. This marks the third encounter in Berhampur in the last 24 hours. Earlier on Monday morning, a habitual offender named Jagannath Sahu alias Jaga was also injured in an encounter.
