SC to Hear Plea Against Orissa HC Stay on Animated Film 'Mahaprabhu Jagannath'
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea challenging the Orissa High Court’s order staying the release of the animated film ‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath’.

The Orissa High Court had earlier put an interim stay on the release of the film amid allegations that it contains distorted information and misrepresentation about Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

Petitioners before the High Court had argued that the film hurts religious sentiments and presents facts about the deities and Jagannath culture in an incorrect manner.

Considering the sensitivity of the issue, the High Court stayed the release until further hearing.

Challenging this order, the filmmakers approached the Supreme Court seeking permission to release the movie as the film was slated for release tomorrow.

A bench of the Apex Court agreed to hear the matter and will examine whether the stay imposed by the Orissa High Court was justified. However, CJI Surya Kant, declined listing for today, and assured that it will be taken up tomorrow.
