BJD President and Odisha Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik has demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, citing reported differences between the Chief Election Commissioner and other members of the Election Commission. Speaking on the issue, Patnaik said that the strong differences among the Election Commissioners warranted the CEC’s immediate resignation and called for the entire Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process to be thoroughly revisited. He reiterated that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had opposed the SIR exercise from the beginning and maintained that the reported differences within the Election Commission raised concerns about the manner in which the process was being conducted. On the MMDR Amendment Act, Patnaik questioned the role of BJP MPs from Odisha in Parliament. He added that the BJD would take up the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act issue strongly.
