Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a violent clash broke out between two groups while watching a “Mahabharata” stage performance in Ganjam district, leaving more than 10 people injured. The incident occurred late at night in Markandi village under Golanthara police limits during the ongoing Thakurani Yatra celebrations. Two separate Mahabharata drama troupes were performing near the ODRP Colony area when tension suddenly erupted between two groups of villagers over an alleged issue. The situation soon turned violent as both groups allegedly attacked each other with stones and wooden sticks. Eyewitnesses said the area turned into a battleground for some time, creating panic among spectators attending the cultural programme. More than 10 persons from both groups sustained injuries in the stone-pelting and assault. The injured were immediately shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. On receiving information, Golanthara police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police have started an investigation into the incident and are trying to ascertain the exact reason behind the clash.
