A low-pressure area has formed over the coastal region adjoining the Bay of Bengal on Saturday. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards during the next 48 hours and pass through northern Odisha and the Gangetic West Bengal region. Under its influence, thunderstorms and rain are expected across Odisha, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in northern districts. The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has issued an Orange Alert for six districts today, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur. A Yellow Alert has also been issued for 24 other districts across the state. Rainfall activity is likely to intensify further from Sunday across Odisha. Several parts of Odisha are expected to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next four days. Authorities have advised people to remain alert, particularly in areas likely to receive heavy rainfall.
