The Supreme Court has directed former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal, who was convicted in a rape case, to surrender within two weeks and submit the surrender certificate before the Court. A bench headed by Justice Alok Aradhe agreed to list Tejpal’s appeal challenging the Bombay High Court judgment on September 22, if Tejpal is able to submit the surrender certificate by then. Earlier, the Bombay High Court sentenced Tehelka founder and former editor-in-chief, Tarun Tejpal to 10 years in prison and fined Rs 10 lakh in connection with the 2013 sexual assault case involving a junior colleague in the elevator of a Goa resort during the magazine’s annual Thinkfest event. The Supreme Court also rejected Tejpal’s plea seeking exemption from surrendering until his appeal against the Bombay High Court verdict is taken up for hearing.
