RBI Hikes Repo Rate by 25 bps Amid Rising Inflation
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased the repo rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 5.50%, marking its first rate hike since February 2023, amid rising inflation.

The decision to increase repo rate was taken unanimously by the monetary policy committee (MPC), which is headed by Governor Sanjay Malhotra.

The most immediate concern for borrowers with repo-linked floating-rate loans is a rise in EMIs or an extension of the loan tenure.

The RBI has also raised its core inflation forecast for the current financial year to 4.4% from 4.3% earlier.

Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate & Bank Rate stands adjusted at 5.75% while Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rate stands adjusted at 5.25%. Real GDP growth for 2026-27 is projected at 7.1% while CPI Inflation for 2026-27 is projected at 5.2%.
