A marked low pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is likely to intensify further in the next 48 hours, triggering widespread rain across Odisha. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, the low-pressure system, which was earlier over the Odisha-West Bengal coast, now lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. The cyclonic circulation associated with it extends up to 9.4 km above mean sea level. The system is expected to become more concentrated as it moves further. The IMD has issued a Red Warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in 5 districts: Angul, Boudh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, and Kandhamal. An orange warning for very heavy rain has been issued for 8 districts while yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for 17 districts. The weather alert will remain in force till 7th April.
