Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee was attacked in West Bengal on Saturday while on his way to Sonarpur in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. According to reports, eggs and stones were hurled at Banerjee’s convoy in South 24 Parganas. Some people also chased and attacked him with sticks. Security personnel immediately escorted the MP away, making him wear a helmet for safety. Banerjee was on his way to meet families who were victims of post-poll violence when the incident occurred. The attack took place while he was passing through South 24 Parganas on his way to Sonarpur South. Further details are awaited and police have started an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee has reached Apollo Hospitals in Kolkata, where Abhishek Banerjee has been taken for treatment following the attack on him.
