The CID Crime Branch, Odisha on Tuesday arrested the main accused in the sensational murder case of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain that took place on May 7, 2026, under Balianta Police Station in the Bhingarpur–Kaja area. Based on substantial evidence collected during the investigation, Binod Kumar Behera (48), of Satya Nagar, Bhubaneswar, was apprehended on the night of May 25, 2026, from Indupur in Kendrapara district. Investigation has revealed the involvement of the accused in assaulting GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain. So far, a total of 16 accused persons have been arrested in connection with the case. In the Balianta Soumya murder case, 8 to 10 more persons are under the scanner, Crime Branch IG Sarthak Sarangi informed on Tuesday. The CID Crime Branch said the investigation is continuing on a priority basis, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons involved in the incident.
