A tragic tunnel collapse in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has claimed the lives of seven workers, while 14 others were rescued in critical condition. Several workers are reportedly still trapped inside the tunnel. The incident occurred at an under-construction tunnel of the THDC project at Pipalkoti. According to reports, soil and water suddenly entered the tunnel, trapping the workers inside and causing the structure to collapse. Rescue operations have been underway to locate and evacuate those still trapped. The incident has raised serious concerns over worker safety at the construction site. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the incident site. All agencies such as NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department are involved in rescue work.
