The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved two major railway infrastructure projects worth Rs 3,907 crore in Odisha and Jharkhand, aimed at enhancing line capacity, boosting connectivity and freight movement. The first project involves doubling of the Paradip–Haridaspur railway line, a crucial corridor for port-led cargo traffic. The second is the four-laning of the Rajkharsuan–Dangoposi railway section, which will ease congestion and improve train operations. With an estimated investment of Rs 3,907 crore, both projects are targeted for completion by 2030–31. These projects covering four Districts across the States of Odisha and Jharkhand will add around 145 km to the Indian Railways network, boosting connectivity, freight movement, and economic growth across Odisha and Jharkhand. The proposed multi-tracking project will enhance connectivity to approximately 1,526 villages, which are having a population of about 14 lakhs.
