After Debashish Samantaray resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Monday, senior BJD leaders Lenin Mohanty and Pramila Mallik launched a sharp attack, asserting that his exit would not harm the party. Addressing a press meet, BJD leader Lenin Mohanty said Samantaray had no contribution to the party and had only taken all benefits and positions from BJD. Many senior leaders left the party in Cuttack because of him. He himself lost in Cuttack. I don’t think the party will suffer any loss due to him, Mohanty said, adding that Samantaray’s presence had no electoral impact. Echoing similar views, BJD leader Pramila Mallik said the party would become even stronger after his departure. She alleged that Samantaray was in touch with the BJP after BJD lost power in the State. That’s why he remained absent from Parliament during the Waqf Bill. He went to get clean in the BJP’s washing machine, Mallik said. She further claimed that Samantaray never raised issues concerning Odisha’s people even once during his tenure in Parliament.
