Portugal bows out of FIFA World Cup; Ronaldo’s World Cup dream remains unfulfilled
Portugal’s campaign at the FIFA World Cup came to an end after a 1-0 defeat against Spain. With the loss, Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream of winning the World Cup remains unfulfilled.
 
The defeat also marked the end of Ronaldo’s World Cup journey. The 41-year-old forward has played in 6 editions of the World Cup. Across those 6 tournaments, Ronaldo appeared in 27 matches and scored 11 goals.
 
Portugal’s exit means one of football’s greatest players will have to wait for another shot at football’s biggest trophy.
 
On the other hand, the United States’ journey in the FIFA World Cup came to a disappointing end after suffering a 4-1 loss against Belgium. With the commanding win, Belgium advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
 
Belgium will now face Spain in the quarterfinal match on the July 11. The heavy defeat brought an early end to USA’s World Cup hopes, while Belgium continued its strong run in the competition.
