The Finance Ministry has advised all Central Government ministries and departments to disburse the salaries, wages of employees and pensioners for September 2026 in advance on September 25, in view of the three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28. The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The unions are seeking several demands, including the implementation of a five-day banking week. According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Controller General of Accounts under the Ministry of Finance, the salary and wages of all Central Government employees for September 2026 may be drawn and disbursed by Central Government offices on Friday, September 25. The government has also stated that the September 2026 pension of Central Government pensioners also be disbursed by the concerned banks or Pay and Accounts Offices (PAOs) on September 25. The decision has been taken to prevent any delay in the payment of salaries, wages and pensions due to possible disruptions in banking transactions during the three-day strike.
