New Delhi: BJD MP Dr. Sasmit Patra on Wednesday met Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi and raised key developmental concerns related to Gajapati district, Odisha’s only officially notified Minority Concentration District. During the meeting, Dr. Patra submitted representations seeking the establishment of a Medical College in Gajapati district and enhanced assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK). The proposals focused on strengthening minority education, skill development initiatives, girls’ residential facilities and community infrastructure in the district. Highlighting the region’s developmental challenges, the BJD MP pointed out that Gajapati continues to face significant gaps in healthcare, education and socio-economic progress despite its unique status and sizeable tribal and minority population. Dr. Patra stressed the need for focused Central intervention to improve access to quality healthcare and educational opportunities for people living in remote and underdeveloped areas of the district. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju reportedly gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured Dr. Patra that the proposals and concerns submitted by him would be examined carefully. Following the meeting, Dr. Patra expressed hope that the Centre would extend greater support for the inclusive and balanced development of Gajapati district.
