Balianta Brutality: Crime Branch Arrests Key Accused Ranjit Patra
Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the high-profile Balianta murder case, the Odisha CID Crime Branch has arrested the prime accused, identified as Chinu alias Ranjit Patra, in connection with the shocking killing that took place earlier this month in Bhubaneswar outskirts.

The arrest was made on Thursday following an intensive investigation into the May 7 incident reported from the Bhingarpur-Kaja area under Balianta police limits. The Odisha Government had transferred the case to the Crime Branch amid mounting public concern and demands for a thorough probe.

According to officials, investigators gathered crucial evidence linking the 24-year-old accused from Gangeswargada in Cuttack district to the fatal assault. The Crime Branch alleged that the victim was tied up before being mercilessly attacked on the head with a bamboo stick, leading to his death.

The agency also revealed that another accused, Bunty alias Judhisthira Jena, had earlier been arrested on May 11 and produced before the court.

With the latest arrest, the total number of accused persons held in the case has risen to 13. While local police had initially arrested 11 individuals, the Crime Branch is now probing the broader conspiracy, motive, and involvement of additional suspects.

Officials said the investigation remains underway and more arrests are likely in the coming days as the agency intensifies efforts to uncover the complete sequence of events behind the gruesome crime.
