The latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report for 2024 has brought deeply troubling facts for Odisha. The latest NCRB report shows Odisha has topped the nation in violent crime rate. These violent offences include murder, rape, and kidnapping. The state also ranks second in crimes against women in 2024. The continuous rise in murders, attacks, and atrocities against women raises serious questions about governance and policing. Odisha reported 75,403 violent crime cases in 2024. Crimes against women also saw an upward trend, increasing from 25,914 cases in 2023 to 27,449 in 2024. Odisha recorded 118.3 crimes per lakh women, making it the second highest after Telangana, which reported 128.6.
