India’s Women’s Hockey Team Ends 44-Year Wait with Asian Games Gold

The Indian women’s hockey team ended a 44-year wait for Asian Games gold with a historic 1-0 victory over World No. 4 China in the final of the Asian Games 2026.

Lalremsiami scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute, giving India an early lead. The Indian defence held firm for the remainder of the match to secure a memorable victory and the gold medal.

The triumph marks India’s second Asian Games title in women’s hockey and their first since 1982. The long-awaited gold adds another significant chapter to Indian women’s hockey.

India’s victory also secures a direct qualification berth for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, providing the team with an important pathway to the next edition of the Olympics.
