The first batch of devotees set out for the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji on Friday, beginning the annual pilgrimage from the Domail base camp in Baltal and from Pahalgam. Chanting “Bam Bam Bhole”, hundreds of pilgrims started the arduous trek amid tight security arrangements. According to officials, 4,822 pilgrims travelled in the first convoy. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for the twin base camps of Amarnath Yatra 2026 yesterday. The 57-day-long yatra, which holds immense religious significance for devotees of Lord Shiva, will conclude on August 28. Authorities have deployed multi-layer security, digital surveillance, RFID tracking along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Medical camps and disaster response teams have been stationed at key points to assist pilgrims. CCTV surveillance, and round-the-clock monitoring have also been put in place to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage. The Shri Amarnath Ji shrine, located at an altitude of 3,888 metres in south Kashmir Himalayas, houses the naturally formed ice Shivlingam that draws lakhs of devotees every year.
