Violence grips Bengal after BJP win; 4 dead, party offices vandalised
At least four people were killed and several injured as widespread post-poll violence erupted across West Bengal, day after the BJP secured a landslide victory in the Assembly elections.
 
Four workers, two each from Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were killed in post-poll violence.
 
Two people lost their lives in Kolkata within 24 hours. While, BJP worker Madhu Mondal died after a violent confrontation with TMC supporters in New Town, TMC worker Abir Sheikh was hacked to death in Nanoor.
 
Similarly, in Udaynarayanpur, Yadav Brar, a BJP supporter, died after being assaulted by TMC-linked individuals. Bishwajit Pattnaik, a TMC worker has reportedly died in Beliaghata, Kolkata outside his home.
 
Several party offices belonging to both the TMC and BJP across Kolkata, Howrah and Asansol were vandalised and set on fire. Fresh violence was also reported in Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and other districts. Vehicles were torched and shops vandalized in multiple locations.

According to Election Commission data, the BJP secured 206 of the 294 Assembly seats, while the TMC was reduced to 80 seats.
