Low-Pressure Area Forms Over BoB; Heavy Rainfall Alert Across Odisha, Mayurbhanj Under Red Alert

A low-pressure area has formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, triggering the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha.

Schools in Mayurbhanj district will remain shut today. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a red warning for Mayurbhanj, where very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected. Orange warnings have been issued for Kendujhar, Baleshwar and Bhadrak, while the remaining 26 districts have been placed under a yellow warning.

Among the districts under the yellow warning, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada have been cautioned about heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The weather department has further forecast heavy rainfall across most parts of the state tomorrow, except for six districts in western Odisha. Overall, Odisha is expected to experience heavy rainfall for the next four days under the influence of the low-pressure system.
