India defeated West Indies by eight wickets in the second ODI at Guwahati to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and seal the series victory. Batting first, West Indies posted a massive 405/7 in 50 overs. John Campbell scored 101, Shai Hope made 104 and Amir Jangoo remained unbeaten on 114. In reply, India chased down the target with ease, scoring 406/2 in just 43.3 overs. Shubman Gill starred with an unbeaten 223, while Rohit Sharma contributed 101. Gill also set a new record for the fastest double century in ODI cricket, reaching the milestone in 117 balls. He broke Ishan Kishan’s previous record of 126 balls and registered his second ODI double hundred after his unbeaten 208. India’s successful chase of 406 was only the second instance in ODI history of a team chasing a target of more than 400 runs. The previous record came in 2006 when South Africa chased 435 against Australia. India also extended its record for the most 400-plus totals in ODI cricket with nine, ahead of South Africa’s eight and England’s seven.
