The flood situation in North Odisha remained grim on Thursday as Baitarani, Kani, Salandi, Jalaka and other rivers continued to flow above danger marks. In Bhadrak, both the Baitarani and Salandi rivers are flowing above the danger mark. While, at Rajghat, the Salandi is flowing at 18.80 ft against the danger level of 17 ft, at Akhapada, the Baitarani is flowing at 18.50 meters against the danger level of 18.33 meters. Officials said 80 panchayats across 5 blocks in Bhadrak have been affected. Connectivity to Akhandalamani has been cut off. In Dhamnagar block 22 panchayats, in Bhandaripokhari 9 panchayats and in Tihidi 2 panchayats are impacted. According to officials, around 4 feet of water is flowing over the Kuluthi Jor near Dharmasala. In Champua, the Kanpur copper dam on the Baitarani collapsed at Kandara due to sudden rise in water. At Mundali in Cuttack, 8,13,428 cusecs of water is being discharged every second. Officials expect inflows to reach around 9 lakh cusecs by evening. In Boudh, the Mahanadi is flowing above the warning level near the IB of the Irrigation department. More than 10 villages in Harbhanga block are surrounded by floodwaters. Water up to 5 ft high is flowing at 4 places on Jagannath Road. Two major breaches occurred in the Kani river, inundating 8 villages under Tarpada and Kaspa panchayats. Normal life was disrupted in parts of Subarnapur district on Thursday as floodwater inundated the Biramaharajpur-Sonepur road, cutting off road connectivity. 84 villages in 28 panchayats are affected and around 3,000 people have been shifted in Jajpur.
