The Election Commission has scheduled polling for October 16 to fill 12 Rajya Sabha seats across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The election process will cover 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, one seat in Uttarakhand and a by-election for one seat in West Bengal. The 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh and the one seat in Uttarakhand are falling vacant as the terms of the sitting members are set to end on November 25. In West Bengal, the by-election is being held following the resignation of Rukmini Mallik, popularly known as actor Koel Mallick.
