The Calcutta High Court on Thursday allowed the All India Trinamool Congress to operate three frozen bank accounts for day-to-day and legal expenses. Justice Saugata Bhattacharya appointed retired judge Justice Subrata Talukdar as Special Officer to oversee the accounts till September 30. The Court said there was no material to justify the “hurried” freezing by police. It also ruled that the TMC-rebel faction cannot approach the Special Officer until the ECI takes a decision. The funds will be used only for routine party work and legal matters. The interim order came after the rebel MLA and complainant argued that allowing the petitioner TMC to operate the accounts could lead to tampering with valuable evidence.
