Passport Fees Hiked by Ministry of External Affairs after 14 Years
The Ministry of External Affairs has increased passport fees for the first time in nearly 14 years. The revised charges have been notified through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026.

The cost of a fresh passport will be ₹2,500 under the normal scheme and ₹5,000 under the Tatkaal scheme. The fee hike would come into effect from 1 July. Officials said the fee revision was done considering administrative costs.
