In a major retaliatory move, Afghanistan has carried out a large-scale drone strike on ISIS hideouts inside Pakistan. According to Afghan officials, the airstrike targeted ISIS-K terrorist bases and successfully destroyed locations where militants were hiding. Several terrorists are reported to have been killed in the operation. The strike comes after Pakistan launched an attack on Sunday that killed 38 Afghan civilians including women and children. Terming it a “major response,” Afghanistan said the drone operation was aimed at dismantling ISIS-K infrastructure operating across the border. Afghan authorities confirmed that the targets were directly linked to ISIS-K, the regional affiliate of the Islamic State. Tensions between the two neighbors have escalated following the cross-border strikes. No official response has been issued by Pakistan so far regarding the latest Afghan drone strike.
