The Odisha Fire Services and Emergency Services Department has stepped up preparedness in view of continuous rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system over the State. Fire & Emergency Services DG Sudhansu Sarangi said all fire stations across Odisha have been placed on 24-hour alert. To strengthen rescue operations, 324 motorized inflatable rubber boats have been deployed across Odisha including 159 in the Central Range, 84 in the Southern Range, and 81 in the Northern Range. For safety of flood-affected people and rescue personnel, 3,143 life jackets and 2,712 life buoys have been kept ready. Additionally, 145 underwater breathing sets and 161 surface breathing sets have been arranged for deep-water rescue work. To drain out water from submerged roads and low-lying areas, 952 pumps have been put on standby. For night-time operations, 628 tower lights and 173 search lights have been made available to assist rescue teams. Officials said all fire stations in the State are on 24-hour alert and the department is fully prepared to handle any emergency arising from the ongoing spell of rain.
