The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced the conduct of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase-III of electoral rolls in Odisha. The SIR of electoral rolls will begin across 16 States, in Odisha and three Union Territories from July 1, covering over 36 crore electors in a phased manner. The massive verification drive is being undertaken to ensure an error-free and updated voter list ahead of upcoming elections. To execute the revision, over 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out house-to-house verification work. They will be supported by 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties. The BLOs will visit each household to verify elector details, add new eligible voters, delete names of deceased or shifted voters, and correct existing entries. The Commission has directed BLOs to ensure 100% physical verification. Special focus will be on enrolling young voters who have turned 18 as of January 1, 2026, and removing duplicate entries through de-duplication software. The revision will cover the entire country under Phase-III, except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The exercise aims to update and verify voter lists to maintain the integrity of the electoral process. Electors will also be able to check their details online and file claims and objections during the designated period. Chief Electoral Officers of respective states have been asked to ensure wide publicity and conduct awareness campaigns so that no eligible voter is left out.
