2 More Gold! Sujeet Wins India's First Wrestling Gold, Ankush Clinches Boxing Gold

India’s gold rush at the Asian Games continued as wrestler Sujeet Kalal and boxer Ankush Panghal delivered impressive performances to win gold medals in their respective events.

Sujeet Kalal produced a thrilling display in the men’s 65kg freestyle wrestling final, edging past Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev 10-9 to secure the gold medal. The victory gave India its first wrestling gold of the ongoing Asian Games.

Sujeet also joined an elite group of Indian wrestlers to win Asian Games gold in the 65kg freestyle category. Yogeshwar Dutt was the first Indian to achieve the feat in 2014, followed by Bajrang Punia in 2018.

India then added another gold in boxing, with Ankush Panghal defeating South Korea’s Kim Minseong 4-0 in the men’s 80kg final. The victory marked India’s third boxing gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games.

Earlier in the day, Indian women boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Parveen Hooda had also secured gold medals in their respective categories, further strengthening India’s boxing campaign.

Ankush’s triumph also made him the first Indian male boxer since Amit Panghal to win an Asian Games gold medal, following Panghal’s gold-winning performance at the 2018 edition. India has climbed to 5th place in the Asian Games 2026 medal tally, following a spectacular run of five Gold medals on Friday.
