Cabinet Approves 410-km Railway Expansion Across Four States
The Union Cabinet has approved four major railway multi-tracking projects across West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu with total cost of Rs. 9,450 crore, adding approximately 410 km to the existing Indian Railways network.
 
The approved projects include the 173-km fourth line between Kharagpur and Bhadrak (Ranital), covering parts of West Bengal and Odisha, the 75-km fourth line between Bhadrak and Haridaspur in Odisha, the 90-km third and fourth lines between Gummidipundi and Gudur across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and the 72-km third and fourth lines between Cuttack and Paradip (Badabandha) in Odisha.
 
Among the Odisha projects, the Cuttack-Paradip multi-tracking project has an estimated cost of ₹2,286 crore, while the Bhadrak-Haridaspur fourth line is expected to cost around ₹1,583 crore. The Kharagpur-Bhadrak (Ranital) fourth line has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹3,352 crore.
 
The four projects covering 08 Districts across the states of West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 410 Kms.
