The ‘Vande Mataram’ Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha today through a voice vote. The Bill had already been passed in the Rajya Sabha yesterday. With the Lok Sabha’s approval, it has now cleared both Houses of Parliament. The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amend.) Bill, 2026 makes it mandatory to respect ‘Vande Mataram’. It also includes penal provisions for those who oppose or disrespect the national song.Once it receives the President’s assent, the new law will come into effect.
