India ended a 64-year wait for a medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Asian Games after Nitesh Siwach won a Silver medal in the men’s 97kg category. Nitesh finished with a silver medal after losing 0-4 to Japan’s Yuri Nakazato in the final of the men’s 97kg Greco-Roman wrestling event. The achievement marked India’s return to the Greco-Roman wrestling podium after 64 years. India had last won a medal in the discipline at the 1962 Asian Games. Despite falling short in the final, Nitesh’s silver medal ended a long wait for India in Greco-Roman wrestling and added to the country’s medal tally at the ongoing Asian Games. Meanwhile, the Indian men’s squash team also secured a bronze medal after losing to Malaysia 1-2 in the semifinal. India fought hard in the semifinal but could not advance to the final, settling for the bronze medal. The two medals added to India’s strong showing across wrestling and squash at the Asian Games.
