Minor Girl Gang-Raped in Kendrapada; Case Registered Under POCSO Act, 2 Accused Identified
The Kendrapada Sadar Police Station has registered a case of gang rape involving a minor victim, following a written complaint filed by the victim’s mother. The police have initiated a formal investigation into the incident, which occurred in the early hours of 16 June 2026.
 
The victim’s family sustains their livelihood through sweeper work near Jajang Kali Temple in the Kendrapada Sadar Police Station jurisdiction. On the intervening night of 15–16 June 2026, at approximately 1:30 AM, the minor girl stepped approximately 50 feet from her residence for sanitation purposes. At that time, two intoxicated men approached the location, physically assaulted the victim by slapping her, forcibly took her to a nearby area, and subjected her to sexual assault.
 
Upon hearing the victim’s cries for help, her mother and elder sister immediately rushed to the spot. Upon their arrival, the accused fled the scene, leaving behind their footwear and a liquor bottle – both of which have been secured as material evidence.
 
An FIR has been registered at Kendrapara Sadar Police Station under Sections 70(2), 76, 115(2), and 351(3) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
 
Police have identified two individuals as the primary accused in this case. The accused, identified as Shubham Kumar Nayak and Vinod Bihari Mallik are residents of Tarando Village under Nikirai Police Station.
 
Following the registration of the case, Additional IIC , Basudev Parida has been assigned to lead the investigation under the instructions of the In-Charge of Kendrapara Sadar Police Station. Efforts to apprehend the accused are actively underway, and all aspects of the incident are being thoroughly examined.
 
The SP Kendrapada, has personally directed that the matter be treated with utmost seriousness and that all requisite legal steps be taken promptly.
