The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened 10 more gates of the reservoir on Friday to manage a rise in the reservoir’s water level triggered by heavy rainfall. With this, floodwater is now being discharged through a total of 12 gates. Heavy showers in Odisha caused waterlogging in several cities and forced the Hirakud dam authority to open more gates. The opening of more gates comes as heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas has led to a sharp rise in inflow into the Mahanadi river system.
