At least 49 people were killed and 58 others injured after a Myanmar military airstrike hit a market area in Kyauktaw township of Rakhine State. The attack took place in an area controlled by the Arakan Army, an ethnic armed group, with reports stating that a fighter jet dropped bombs near a crowded market. Several vendors, shoppers and pedestrians were reportedly among the casualties. The incident is among the latest deadly airstrikes amid Myanmar’s continuing conflict between the military and ethnic armed groups.
