On the occasion of National Handloom Day, President Droupadi Murmu presented the Sant Kabir Handloom Awards and the National Handloom Awards 2025 to 22 master weavers from across the Country at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Odisha brought pride to the State as two of its artisans were among the awardees. While, Ram Meher from Baragada was honoured with the prestigious Sant Kabir Handloom Award-2025 for his exceptional contribution to traditional weaving, Prafulla Kumar Sahoo from Jagatsinghpur received the National Handloom Award-2025 in recognition of his craftsmanship and dedication to preserving handloom heritage. The President said that handloom has been an integral part of the evolutionary journey of India’s civilization for centuries. It reflects the extraordinary diversity of our nation and has preserved our regional uniqueness. National Handloom Day is observed every year to pay tribute to weavers and to encourage people to adopt handwoven products, thereby supporting local artisans and India’s handloom sector.
