4 Iconic Traditions of Odisha Including Ratha Jatra Get National Recognition
The Government of India has officially included four of Odisha’s most celebrated iconic traditional cultural practices in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of India.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed that Ratha Jatra, Mayurbhanj Chhau Dance, Odissi, and Bali Jatra have now been recognized at the national level.

The reply was given in response to a question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Dilip Ray from Odisha.

The Minister said that the identification and documentation of these heritage practices was carried out by Sangeet Natak Akademi, the nodal body entrusted with maintaining the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Dilip Ray’s Parliamentary query has brought Odisha’s priceless cultural heritage and traditions to national attention and renewed the push for their preservation and global promotion.
