The INDIA bloc has announced a nationwide “Save Democracy Campaign” against the Election Commission and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the campaign at an INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday. The alliance has planned a series of programmes across the country and district-level “Save Democracy” marches from October 2 to 8, including demonstrations outside district collectorates. As part of the campaign, Opposition MPs are scheduled to march towards the Election Commission’s office in Delhi on October 6. The INDIA bloc is also planning to meet President Droupadi Murmu in the second week of October to raise its concerns over the electoral-roll revision process. The Opposition parties have raised concerns over the transparency of the SIR exercise and demanded greater disclosure of changes made to electoral rolls. Kharge has called for constituency-wise and booth-wise details of additions, deletions and corrections, along with notice and an appeal mechanism for voters whose names are removed. INDIA bloc leaders appealed for an early resolution of all cases related to the SIR and electoral matters pending in the Supreme Court.
