In a major boost to school education in Odisha, 71 Secondary schools across the State will be upgraded to Higher Secondary schools. The Project Approval Board (PAB) of Samagra Shiksha has approved the proposal. For this upgrade, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 140.74 crore. As per the plan, Arts stream will be started in 60 schools and Science stream will be introduced in 11 schools. This move is aimed at giving students in rural and semi-urban areas better access to +2 education without having to travel to distant towns. Schools from 20 districts of the State will benefit from this scheme. Ganjam district will see the highest number of upgrades, with 12 schools being converted to higher secondary status. Officials said the upgradation will include new classrooms, laboratories, teachers, and other infrastructure required for +2 classes. The aim is to improve enrolment and reduce dropout rates after Class 10.
