NCW Takes Suo Motu Cognizance of Bihar Harassment Case; 3 Arrested, SIT Formed

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of an incident involving the alleged public molestation, assault, wrongful restraint and harassment of a young woman and her male companion in Bihar’s Jamui district.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar, directing the immediate registration of an FIR, identification and arrest of all accused based on video footage, and a time-bound, impartial investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, Jamui Police has confirmed that an FIR has been registered over the alleged molestation and indecent behaviour by anti-social elements captured in the video. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been constituted under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jamui to investigate the case.

According to the police, three individuals have been taken into custody based on their identification from the video footage. Two other individuals have also been identified, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

The police further stated that the main accused, who allegedly behaved indecently with the woman in the video, has been identified. The investigation is continuing to establish the full sequence of events and take action against all those involved.
