The process to appoint the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha hit a roadblock on Friday after a key UPSC meeting was adjourned midway without finalizing any names. The meeting was chaired by UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar in New Delhi. Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg and incumbent DGP Y.B. Khurania were also present. The Odisha government had sent a panel of 11 senior IPS officers to the UPSC for consideration. The panel was expected to shortlist 3 names from this list and forward them to the state. However, the discussion was stalled after objections were raised regarding one of the shortlisted officers. The issue pertained to an ongoing probe linked to the OPRB examination case and a proposal for departmental proceedings against the officer. Sources said the UPSC asked for proper official records before the officer could be dropped from consideration. With the required documents not immediately available, the board decided to pause the meeting. With DGP Y.B. Khurania set to retire on August 16, the delay has raised concerns over who will lead the Odisha Police next. There is still no clarity on when the next UPSC meeting will be held.The state government is now awaiting fresh communication from the UPSC to move the selection process forward.
