Debashish Samantaray has been officially elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Odisha as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate. Since no other party fielded a candidate, the Election Commission declared his victory without the need for polling. Samantaray, fielded by the BJP, submitted his nomination papers earlier this week. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, BJP State President Manmohan Samal for his vicyory, saying that he will work tirelessly and do whatever the party will instruct to strengthen the organization.
