North Odisha is reeling under severe floods as continuous rain and swollen rivers have triggered embankment breaches and waterlogging across multiple districts. Heavy rain triggered by a deep depression has pushed several major rivers above danger levels, inundating low-lying areas in multiple districts. In Jaleswar, Balasore, a breach occurred in the Jalaka river embankment near Darada on Tuesday. A 200-foot gap was created, allowing floodwater to enter farmlands. In Jajpur, floodwater from the Baitarani river has submerged roads. Water is flowing over the Dasharathpur-Katikatia road. At Anandpur, the Baitarani is flowing at 19.38 meters against the danger level of 18.33 meters. The Water Resources Department has warned that the water level may rise further, raising fears of a major flood in Jajpur. In Bhadrak, both Baitarani and Salandi rivers are flowing above the danger mark. The Jalaka river has also crossed the danger level. District administrations have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official advisories. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office remains 24×7 operational to monitor the situation.
