Sharmila becomes India’s first-ever CWG Gold medallist in Para Athletics
Sharmila Dhankar created history in Glasgow on Monday as she became India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medallist in para athletics.
 
India clinched its second Gold medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with para athlete Sharmila Dhankar winning the top podium finish in the Women’s Shot Put F57 event.
 
Sharmila threw a distance of 9.81 meters to secure Gold for India. With the win, she became the first Indian woman para athlete to win Gold at the Commonwealth Games.
 
It is also a significant milestone for Indian para sports as this is the first para athletics medal for India at the CWG in 20 years. Adding to India’s medal tally, Sarvesh Anil Kushare delivered a historic performance in athletics by winning Silver in the Men’s High Jump.
