Odisha Govt corrects English Spellings of 64 Places
Odisha Government has issued a notification to restore and standardize the English spellings of 64 places spread across 26 districts.
 
In a move aimed at preserving Odisha’s linguistic and cultural identity, the State Government has announced a statewide correction of English spellings for all administrative units. The changes will apply to Districts, Sub-Divisions, Tahasils, Blocks and Urban Local Bodies across the state.
 
The notification states that many existing English spellings do not reflect proper Odia pronunciation.
 
Among the most notable changes are Cuttack being officially spelt as Kataka, Angul as Anugola, Bargarh as Baragada, Salipur as Salepur, Talcher as Talacher.
